Peavey Generation Custom Exp ACM - Review

Type of Gear: Electric Guitars

Brand Name: peavey

Model: Generation Custom Exp ACM

Price: 500.00

Review - Excellent Guitar: I have owned my ACM, since 10/03, it has replaced my Guild D-55, my Bob Wier ('78 Neck thru, tree of life Ibanez), my strat, tele... It provides me with stereo Authentic Acoustic and various electric sounds. Great action, andis truly a great instrument. In the studio, no mic, just plug in and I get thatgreat Martin HD-28 sound, ACM is a model of the '28. I am a Worship Leader and Songwriter. I use many styles from acoustic ballads, to rock/blues for our serives. Have in my ACM, allows me to be fluid, as I do not have to stop and switch guitars. Being stereo, I send my electric though my modeling amp, and my Acoustic strait to the board. You could set up two amps. The signals can be combined, for even more versatility. I wrote a similar review on peaveys web site, on my "Brown Sugar". 30+ years and many guitars later, this is my workhorse. For any price, if there is another guitar this adaptable, I've not seen it. In the early years, peavey guitars were more like Baseball bats, my how they have improved. Listen to one, and then play one... wow... downs: Poorqaulity Stereo cord and only 6'.

Rating (On a Scale of 1-10): 10

Additional Comments/Final Verdict: All my other Axes, are in the cases or on my walls, begging to be played, but unless I break a string while performing, they will just have to keep beggin',

Review - Please try to include as many specific details as you can: this model is bang in the middle of peaveys generation range of guitars, and consists of asolid alder 't' style body with a maple neck and 21 fret rosewood fingerboard.

The body of mine is black with white s/plate and off white body binding. No flaws noticable, and compared to some other chinese guitars i've seen, one canonly admire the finish.

The neck, of unvarnished maple, has a great chunky, tactile feel and while having just the 21 frets may be a problem for shredders, it just screams out forblues / rock. The neck itself has some very nice graining in the maple, and the fingerboard (on mine, at least) is a rather light, very attractive rosewood, again with a great tactile finish.

The pick ups are stock peavey h/s/s, giving versatility through a 5 way switch. The bucker in the bridge is hot enough for a raucous rock sound. The2/4 splits give a fine glassy spank sound. The neck has a warm jazzy tone, buti find the middle on its own a little weak.

The best feature of this guitar though just has to be the acoustic modelling. The bridge has individual piezo p/ups in it, leading to an internal circuit board. This models a martin D28, but in practice it is far more versatile than that. Its quite loud, so to get near to the authentic martin sound you'll be rolling the volume right back.

Played loud though you will find some great overdriven sounds (yes i know that sounds ridiculous, but think 'muse' and you'll be on the right tracks!)

The signals can be played alone or blended or even sent to seperate amps ordesk inputs. As you can see, versatility is the name of the game here.

Control is through the 5-way with volume and tone pots for the h/s/s while the acm has just the volume pot. A 3 way mini toggle controls selection between themagnetic and piezo. The Knobs are t style knurled metal and are solid.

The only faults i can truly comment on are that rather weak middle single pupand the tuners, which to be honest leave a little to be desired, but for that price, hey come on!

Buy this guitar, go spend another 150 on it and you will have a truly classy instrument for less than 400

Rating (On a Scale of 1-10): 9

Additional Comments/Final Verdict: Beginner, intermediate, gigging, semi pro, pro. I can guarantee this is one piece of kit that will stay with you long after other guitars have flown. A classic.
