Epiphone Sheraton Archtop Review
Type of Gear: Electric Guitars
Brand Name: Epiphone
Model: Epiphone Sheraton Archtop
Price: €450 with case
Review - Please try to include as many specific details as you can: The Sheraton is based on the Gibson ES-335 and looks extremely similar, having a slightly larger headstock. I bought a Vintage Sunburst model second hand in mid-2005 but the guitar (and the case) were in immaculate condition. The instrument looks and plays better than the Epiphone Dot (entry level model) and while the Gibson is clearly superior in terms of overall quality, the Sheraton provides a high build standard for a fraction of the price. The gold hardware (tuners, pickups, bridge) looks classy and the guitar sounds classy, with a characteristic depth to the sound. For cosmetic reasons I also removed the pickguard. The bridge pickup does not sound as loud as the rhythm pickup so I made adjustments to compensate. Otherwise the guitar is a joy to play with a thin neck and lovely action. Unless you are prepared to splash out on a Gibson, the Sheraton provides a quality and much lower-priced alternative.
Rating (On a Scale of 1-10): 10
Additional Comments/Final Verdict: For the money, an absolute bargain and a quality instrument. New, expect to pay €600 or equivalent.
