Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus - Review

Type of Gear: Electric Guitars

Brand Name: Epiphone

Model: Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus

Price: 500$ Canadian(used)

Review: I bought this guitar as an used 2001 model in perfect state that has been owned by a 65years-old man who wasn't a heavy player (sounds great). The guy at the shop told me it's worth about 700-800 bucks but I didn't know if I should have trusted him. When I got home I played for about 2-3 hours non-stop and noticed nothing wrong. I think the look is awesome and Les Paul definitely has taste. The pickups sounds great and I can create some overdrive by playing close to the neck and cranking up my amp. The neck is cool and I like the low-action and I like the smooth feeling when I play it. On the other hand, the guitar is more fragile than a strat or tele and couldn't throw it around and I don't have many pickup combinations as I can have on my strat. But as an other comparison to the strat, the tuning machines turns like butter and it rocks a lot more. I can get about the same sound as Jimmy Page, Slash or Stone Gossard.

Rating (On a Scale of 1-10): 9

Additional Comments/Final Verdict: Finally. This guitar is a great buy but it's not the most versatile guitar ever, when you want to dig into funk or other things sometimes I don't have the sound I want.

Review - Please try to include as many specific details as you can: I traded a used Jay Turser SG style custom electric with $500 cash for my new Epi Les Paul Standard Plus....and also scored a very nice hardshell case in the bargain. This guitar is a honeyburst flame top with locking grovers, rosewood fretboardw/trapezoid inlays that sparkle and shine, and Gibson stock alnico covered humbuckers. This guitar is absolutely beautiful! I have had friends (who ownnew and vintage Gibson Les Pauls) tell me that they have never seen such abeautiful Les Paul, and it stands up to their Gibsons. Action is perfect. The craftmenship on this guitar is perfect. One other thing, not only does it sport the tradional "Les Paul Model" signature on the headstock, it also says "LesPaul Standard" instead of the usual "Gibson" that is vertically printed on the plastic cover piece. Very cool.

Rating (On a Scale of 1-10): 10

Additional Comments/Final Verdict: I don't rate guitars by saying what kind of music I play with them. I have 24 years experience, and have been a pro lead player for over 10 years. This guitar is one of the best I've ever owned, and it has also changed my thinking of Gibson. Epiphone is pure quality at an affordable price.....and paying another $700 for one that says Gibson is dumb(Epiphone is Gibson anyway). Sure, you get all of the extras with Gibson....a true flame top maple instead of a veneer.....but I don't care about that. It about the music, and this guitar delivers 100%.
