Crate GT200 Amplifier - Review

Type of Gear: Guitar Amplifiers

Brand Name: Crate

Model: Crate GT200

Price: $500 (used)

Review: I bought this amp in 1997, and it has served me well ever since. Even though its a practice amp, it could easily be used onstage w/no problem.  It has two channels w/eq and built in effects for both. There is also an option for tube and solid state, although the tube sounds a little too processed for my liking. Likemost Crate amps I've played, the distorted sound has a very distinct high-endcrunch, but what I like most about it is the clean sound. Very smooth and un-muddied. The chorus/effects also make for some very Alex Lifeson-esque sounding tones.

Rating (On a Scale of 1-10): 9

Additional Comments/Final Verdict: A solid practice amp which would be a goodbuy now at a discount from what it was 6 years ago.
