Review - Please try to include as many specific details as you can: I bought it used about 15 or so years ago for about $250. The serial # on the sticker inside the body is A88782. The back & sides = solid rosewood. The top is solid spruce with maple bindings on the body and neck. Rosewood fretboard w/ inlays. Also an adjustable neck. The sound hole has outstanding striped & herring bone inlays and a matching stripe down the back. Are they real or a decal? The tuning head also has the mirrored A's in pearl inlay on thefront and the name Alvarez on the back above the nickel tuning gear.

Additional Comments/Final Verdict: I use GHS clasic bronze light ga. strings. (I've tried many brands ). It has the most beutifull sound of any guitar Ive owned! Including Ovation. I will NEVER sell this guitar...ever! I would apreciate any background info on it to see if is really worth what I paid for it.

Review - Please try to include as many specific details as you can: My grandmother gave me my first gutar when i was 16 and living with her in her home in Texas. One year later she died and I joined the U.S.M.C. Thanks to one of my thoughtful relatives it disappeared (likely pawned) and I never saw it again. I don't recall the model number but it beautiful and was something I really loved and never forgot. A great sounding little guitar too. 10 years later, while stuck in Southern California trying to find a load for my truck and having little luck, I walked into a music store that delt Alvarez guitars. Man, it was like years peeled away and I was a kid again. I spent about three hours in that store and finally settled on a 5022. It is just as descibed by the other posted review and yes, those are decals. I found out one day when i caught both of my toddler sons standing on the hardcase with it flat on the floor. It cracked the body just above the pick guard next to the fret board.

Additional Comments/Final Verdict: Though my playing is somewhat marginal and I would need a rosetta stone to decipher some of the tabulature out there, this guitar still plays great and stays in tune good enough for a dad to strum Elvis Presley's "houn'dawg" to two gleeful boys now 9 and 11. And then still render a recognizable rendition of Pearl Jam's "Yellow Ledbetter" I hope yours brings you as much joy as mine has. It rates a 10 for sentimental purposes and for sheer durability.

Review - Please try to include as many details as you can: Recently I was reasearching this Alvarez 5022 that I purchased in 1984. I saw many people had paid from $200.00 to $350.00. As I continued reasearching I felt better. The 5022 is a professional series guitar with a solid spruce top, Rosewood backs and sides, mahogany neck, 14/20 fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot and top logo inlay. These guitars were around $550.00 new. Mine was made in Korea with the line down the back.The models I have seen from Japan did not have the line down the back. I have seen some made in the mid to late 70's and early to mid 80's. When I purchased this one in 1984 I was told it was a few years old. It has a pick up mounted in it.

Additional Comments/Final Verdict: This guitar will hold a tune for months. I have played it 22 years and it sounds better today then the day i bought it. I thought about selling it but have changed my mine. You can get a lot of guitars today but the aged guitars seem to get better and better, provided you take proper care. PS: I do have a 1960 Fender Concert 4 x 10, 200 watt, for sale. Funny, try researching that old tube amp. It might be the last one available. Back to the Alvarez 5022, I would advise to keep this little guitar, it's bullet proof.
